WE are hot in the film awards season now. But let us forget about the Oscar, BAFTA (British Academy Film Awards), Cannes and all types of Guild Awards for a moment. There is another kind of award that is equally having its fair share of limelight – The Adult Film Awards.
This other kind of film awards are very much popular in Belgium, Brazil, Spain, France, Germany, Canada, Australia, Switzerland, UK, Japan and obviously, United States of America.
You may not be familiar with these award titles: X Awards (not X Factor!), European X Awards, Barcelona International Erotica Film Festival Awards, Pink Grand Prix, GayVN Awards, AVN Awards and others.
But do you know that some of these awards are as long as the adult film industry itself while some are created from internet porn like OnlyFans and Pornhub?
AVN Awards: Oscars of porn
While we get all excited about the coming 95th Academy Awards, we just missed the AVN Awards (Adult Video News Awards) dubbed as the Oscars of Porn which was held on Jan 7 recently.
The Oscars of Porn have so much to brag about. The real Oscar has only 31 categories with 23 to be aired live. But AVN Awards has 123 categories – more than anyone’s imagination –from the Best Film, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best New Starlet to Best All-Girl Feature, Best Gay Solo Video, Best Bi-Sexual Award, Transgender Performer of the Year, and Most Outrageous Sex Scene to many more.
And one may wonder how Best Cinematography comes into play when our eyes were feasted with actions in bed throughout the film. Maybe some outdoor action? You guess!
While the Academy Awards have Meryl Streep, the adult film awards have their very own “Meryl Streep of Porn”, Angela White, who garnered 163 award nominations and 97 wins in her two decades of career.
And don’t be mistaken “Queen of Thrones” with Game of Thrones, “Porn Wars with Star Wars, “This Ain’t Avatar” with Avatar, Top Guns XXX with Top Gun starring Tommy Gunn and not Tom Cruise!
Fleshy red carpets
The adult film awards have never fell short of glitz and glam. The AVN Awards are always held in Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Los Angeles. And one thing is certain, their red carpets are really flashy and “fleshy” with lots of skin.
Be dazzled by eye-popping and jaw-stopping fashion like beckless dresses, truly short cut-outs and hemlines and even tight leather wear. In fact, famed mainstream celebrities like Lil Wayne, Cardi B and recently, Jamaican singer, Shenseea, have all performed on AVN stage.
To add to its glamour, some celebrities even ditched their career to be in the adult film industry. Former Disney star, Maitland Ward won Best Leading Actress and Mainstream Venture of the Year at the recent AVN Awards.
