“Are we living in a dictatorship?”: Netizens pan the IGP over flash mob warning

IRATE over the Royal Malaysian Police’s (PDRM) warning for the public to not join any gatherings to oppose the rising prices of goods, netizens took to social media to pan the Government for trying to silence them.

(This called a dictatorship),” said user Aziz Chin Khan.

Echoing Aziz’s sentiments, user Ajin Chestnut added:

(An iron-fisted rule. Let us vote out the “frog-infested Government”. As long as UMNO in power, prices of goods will surely rise. PAS is too busy offering prayers while Bersatu is jostling for positions. No one cares for us)

Netizen Untungla Kau retorted:

(Signs of a Government that will lose power in the next general election)

Yesterday (July 16), Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani warned the public to not join any nationwide gatherings or flash mob to protest against the rising cost of living, which is being planned by several quarters.

“I urge the public to not join any gatherings or flash mobs which doesn’t comply with Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

Stern action will be taken against the organisers and participants who fail to comply with the laws of the land,” he was reported as saying.

Thieves celebrated, good people silenced

On that note, user Jebon lashed out at the Government and said the public have the right to air their grievances if the authorities are failing to protect the people’s interests.

(Where is our right as the people if we cannot voice out our grouses as consumers? The cost of living is soaring as the prices of rubber, palm oil, pesticide and fertiliser had shot up. We’re just villagers here)

Netizen Faizol Azha remarked:

(One must understand that holding demonstration to voice our grievances is not part of our culture. Our culture is about promoting corruption and abuse of power, in addition to organising events for plunderers) – July 17, 2022
