THE obsession to free former prime minister (PM) Datuk Seri Najib Razak has gone so far that UMNO Bangi chief Datuk Zaidi Md Zain reportedly said PM Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Deputy PM Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi can free the former PM.
In a report published in a local portal, the UMNO man said, “Both Anwar and Zahid have the ‘political’ power to free Najib.”
He added that he would want “Anwar and Zahid to make an effort to free Najib because the former UMNO leader can help strengthen the unity government.”
While it is unthinkable that UMNO is still pursuing the thought that Najib can be freed from his crimes, it is unbelievable that they think he is innocent.
On the other hand, the UMNO Youth is still stuck in the past, chasing the shadows of the jailed Najib.
Shouts of ‘Bossku’ resounded loud and clear at the Dewan Tun Razak on Thursday (June 8). It was a scene that shocked many.
Moreover, young UMNO leaders even gave a trophy to the convicted political leader called Anugerah Tokoh Pemuda UMNO.
The UMNO information head Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh handed the ‘trophy’ to Najib’s son Mohamad Nizar Najib.
The UMNO General Assembly 2023 enters its third day and the party has invited Anwar to the event, making it even more interesting.
The PKR president was welcomed by UMNO president Zahid who was also cheered by Najib’s supporters holding placards of “Najib’s Solidarity” at World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL).
Anwar’s return to the UMNO AGM is a significant one, certainly after the tragic events of 1998.
Anwar donned a blue Baju Melayu and sat on the stage with representatives and other top leaders of UMNO, something unimaginable before the formation of the unity government. – June 10, 2023
