THE presence of migrants in Malaysia has long been a point of contention for our many nation-loving rakyat.
Everyday living is a reminder to their ever growing presence in Malaysia which is troubling indeed.
Even better, it appears some migrants are going the extra “length” to display their dominance in the heart of our capital city.
A video circulating on X showed a strange looking Bangladeshi eatery whose dining area appears to project outwards from the shoplot.
And judging from the footage, this is not exactly a case of putting one or two tables outside.
The eatery appears to have gone for the full extension package. Shoplot? Check. Walkway? Check. Parking area? Why not?
The video has naturally prompted questions from netizens, particularly over who approved the apparent extension and whether the operator actually has permission to use the space.

Some even raised the more serious allegation that enforcement officers could be turning a blind eye, with some commenters speculating about possible bribes.
More importantly, it raises an interesting question. If the extension is illegal, how did something this obvious go by unnoticed over the years?
After all, this is not a tiny awning hiding behind a tree. If so, the public will appreciate some clarification because nothing settles a neighbourhood mystery quite like an official explanation.
Thankfully, the Kuala Lumpur Municipal Council, aka DBKL can be very effective once the issue goes viral.
DBKL’s account on threads has since issued an official statement that the premises have been fined for the illegal extension.
DBKL’s investigation found that the premises is owned by a Malaysian citizen and holds a valid business licence.
However, an inspection found that the premises employed foreign workers without valid permits, failed to display its business licence, and had an additional structure at the front of the premises that was built without DBKL’s approval.
Sadly, ayiemikhael pointed out on threads that the restaurant with its illegal extension has been operating since 2018.
“Everything needs to wait until the public makes a report then you come to check?” lamented ayiemikhael.
At least the illegal extension has now been dealt with. But if it really has been there since 2018, one has to wonder.
Was DBKL waiting for the extension to become eligible for its own heritage status?
Maybe next time, the council could spot these things before they go viral.—Sept 4, 2026
