Batang Kali state seat vacant after rep Harumaini absent more than 6 months

SELANGOR legislative assembly speaker Ng Suee Lim has declared the Batang Kali legislative assembly seat vacant.

Ng claimed in a statement that Batang Kali incumbent Harumaini Omar has been absent from the assembly for more than six months without leave.

Harumaini last appeared in the Selangor state assembly on July 27, 2022, according to Ng. He said that between Nov 23 and Dec 6 last year, there was no record of Harumaini providing an explanation for his absence from the Selangor legislative assembly meeting.

As a result, the position became vacant as of Jan 28, 2023. Ng also stated that Harumini was required to act in accordance with the Constitution of Selangor 1959.

For the record, Harumaini was a former Bersatu member before he decided to join Pejuang. He contested under the GTA-Pejuang ticket for the Hulu Selangor parliamentary seat during the recently concluded 15th General Election (GE15) which was won by Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Hasnizan Harun.

His first attempt to contest for the Batang Kali state assembly seat under the Pakatan Harapan (PH)-Bersatu banner during the GE14 in 2018 was a fruitful one when he won in a three-corner fight against opponents from Barisan Nasional (BN) and PAS. — Feb 16, 2023
