“Be patient, wait for upcoming party elections,” Zahid tells Khairy

UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has advised Khairy Jamaluddin to be patient and wait for the upcoming party elections.

The embattled party president is responding to Khairy’s Facebook post on Tuesday (Nov 22) in which the former UMNO Youth chief said that any negotiations to form a new government should not involve Zahid.

Khairy also said Zahid “no longer has the moral authority” as UMNO president and must therefore “step down immediately”, pointing out that Zahid may still be party president in name but he has no moral authority left to decide on this matter on UMNO’s behalf.

In response to Khairy, Zahid said, “Party positions can be contested by anyone, [so] be patient, brother KJ. The wait for [the party’s next election] isn’t even in more than six months.

“All UMNO grassroots representatives, too, cannot wait to vote for their preferred candidate.”

In the past few days Khairy had repeatedly called for Zahid to step down following the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition’s worst showing in history during the 15th General Election (GE15).

He also said that Zahid, as the commander-in-chief of BN, must have the dignity to accept the responsibility for BN’s failure. – Nov 24, 2022
