Bersatu meeting tonight illegal, contends Kadir Jasin

BERSATU Supreme Leadership Council member Datuk Abdul Kadir Jasin has objected to the calling of the council’s meeting on June 4, saying it is not only against the Bersatu constitution but also against the rules set by the Registrar of Societies (ROS).

The notice for the meeting came on June 2 as a Whatsapp message, and Kadir noted that this goes against the ROS statement dated March 16 that said there should be no conferences of any form for political parties until June 30.

“The meeting cannot be called by the president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, as it is my opinion that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is still a member of Bersatu and still its chairman,” said Kadir in his June 3 statement to Capt (Ret) Muhammad Suhaimi Yahya, the organising secretary for Bersatu.

Kadir also noted that the June 4 meeting was disorganised from the beginning, as “not all members of the Supreme Leadership Council were invited.”

He requested that his objections to the meeting be recorded in the meeting minutes should it continue despite being an invalid meeting, and to go on record that “it is his sincere opinion” that all five party members who have allegedly lost their memberships were still valid party members.

This is in reference to the party’s stance that the five, including Mahathir, had lost their party membership when they sat in the Opposition bench in Parliament recently. – June 4, 2020
