BN reps who defect will face RM50 mil penalty, warns Zahid

BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says any BN assemblyman who defects after the 17th Sabah state election will face a RM50 mil penalty or legal action.

He said he had received signed undertakings from all BN candidates confirming the enforcement of this clause.

Zahid said that although the anti-hopping law makes defections unlikely, BN wants to prevent any repeat of past instability. The measure, he said, is meant to ensure lessons are learned from previous weaknesses.

Speaking at the Jelajah TVET programme in Kinabatangan, the deputy prime minister urged all 45 BN candidates to work hard, describing this election as BN’s chance to regain dominance in Sabah.

He said Sabah voters want to see BN and UMNO return to lead the state after November 29.

Zahid, who also serves as the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, said Kinabatangan’s development remains a priority, covering roads, electricity, water supply and broader improvements for Lamag and Sukau.
