Boy who turned bicycle into bike gets apprehended by cops

MALAYSIANS are a creative bunch. Anyone who denies this statement will be silenced by the wealth of innovations arising from Boleh Land, especially food.

The star of this week’s internet discussion, however, is a 13-year-old boy whose crime, if one can call it that, was possessing an imagination that apparently exceeded factory specifications.

In a video that has been circulating on social media, the teenager can be seen showing off a heavily modified bicycle designed to resemble a motorcycle.

This thing came with a mock exhaust pipe, custom body panels and a chassis design convincing enough that from a distance, some people would probably start checking whether the road tax had expired.

Unsurprisingly, the masterpiece found its way to a police station, where officers appeared less interested in issuing summonses and more interested in figuring out how a school student had managed to create something like this.

It even came with a number plate. As expected, netizens who watched the video immediately split into several camps.

According to @AzAzam5215, Malaysia may have just discovered its next racing prodigy.

@TajuddinKhairul even tagged the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, suggesting that the kid be sponsored so he could one day become an engineer.

Sadly, @4D4MM4DL1N confidently predicted that the youngster would grow up to become a Mat Rempit.

No evidence was presented beyond the fact that the bicycle resembled a motorcycle, which in internet logic is apparently enough to predict somebody’s entire future.

By the same reasoning, children who build cardboard spaceships should probably be monitored by NASA.

What makes the story charming is that the bicycle itself reflects something increasingly rare today: the willingness to create things with your own hands.

Most 13-year-olds spend their free time on their tablets, removing themselves from the physical world.

Whether he eventually becomes an engineer, a racer, an entrepreneur or simply the neighbourhood kid with unusually strong welding skills remains to be seen.

For now, however, he has achieved something many adults can only dream of. He built a machine, impressed the police, entertained the internet, all before finishing secondary school.—June 24, 2026
