Cable theft suspected in major MRT Putrajaya line disruption

THE MRT Putrajaya line suffered major disruption today. Authorities suspect the disruption was caused by cable theft near the Kuchai MRT station.

Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd said preliminary investigations found piles of cut communication cables at the site, indicating theft activities that affected the line’s signalling system.

The rail operator said its technical team, together with MRT Corporation and the police, is conducting a comprehensive investigation and repair works to restore operations and prevent further incidents.

The disruption, which began early this morning, has forced trains between Kwasa Damansara and Putrajaya Sentral to operate manually, resulting in slower movements and longer stops at stations.

Train frequency is now between 20 and 30 minutes, while free shuttle buses are being provided to assist affected passengers. Auxiliary police and station staff have been deployed across stations to manage crowds and provide assistance.

Rapid Rail advised commuters to plan their journeys early and consider alternative transport options. The company also apologised for the inconvenience and said regular updates will be shared through Rapid KL’s social media platforms.

The incident comes just a day before the 47th ASEAN Summit begins, raising concerns over transport reliability in the capital. — Oct 25, 2025
