IT has become quite the joke: add cheese to any food item and it instantly becomes a Malaysian favourite.
To that one can now add mocktails. That’s right, Malaysians obsession with cheese is taken to new heights as it is now a topping on multi-coloured jelly mocktail!
This culinary fad was exemplified by a clip shared on the Foodie Facebook forum showing a vendor dispensing brightly coloured drinks featuring various jellies and assorted toppings like chocolate.
So far so good until the vendor shaves a good helping of cheese as the coup de grâce on the dessert drink.
The odd combination drew a lot of comments from netizens, with no shortage of bemused declarations.
One commenter said that this was not how cheese-producers had meant for their product to be utilised.
A few noted that this was just a toxic invention, while suggesting that the vendor has a responsibility towards its consumers.
One noted that the proper way to infuse a drink with cheese flavours is to use cheese foam or even cream cheese; not grated cheese.
Regardless the taste, one netizen made the observation that the concoction was designed to invite amputation arising from diabetic complications.
Meanwhile, another said that this mish mash of flavours is not food whilst also pointing out that sugar was the real killer.
One netizen asked if it was really cheese that was being used instead of blocks of fat, noting that cheese is quite expensive.
Apparently, the shop – Mee Celup Lanun Toyol Bachok – has been in operation for nine years, so the owners must be doing something right.
Whether one finds the concoction appealing or even unhealthy, FocusM wishes the vendor good luck in their endeavours and viva le difference! – Nov 8, 2024
