Clarify who is the Selangor chairperson of the MKN, PM told

ISKANDAR Puteri MP Lim Kit Siang has urged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to clarify who is in charge of the National Security Council (MKN) in Selangor.

This came after complaints from numerous parties about the poorly coordinated rescue responses following downpours and flash floods last weekend.

“The claim by the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar that he is still the Selangor state chairperson of the NSC after the Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari claimed that he has resumed the task of the state NSC chief begs imagination,” Lim remarked.

“Has the Federal Government, which Ismail Sabri gave 90% score to his jumbo-sized cabinet for its first 100-day performance, quickly descended into a kakistocracy where the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing?

“Who is now the Selangor chairperson of the NSC – Amirudin or Noh?”

The veteran DAP lawmaker further urged Ismail Sabri – who chairs MKN at the federal level – to shed light on the matter.

“Can the prime minister make an announcement to clear the air? Such a conundrum should not arise in the midst of the deadliest floods disaster, which has claimed 27 lives so far, the highest death toll since the last major floods in 2014, and still counting.

“Or is the prime minister as ‘confused’ on the matter as Noh and Amirudin and could throw no light on the matter?”

Calling the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) “a disaster”, Lim went on to echo criticisms made by former minister Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz and Bersatu Supreme Council member Rais Hussin over the poorly-coordinated disaster management.

He also criticised the federal government for being “grossly remiss in not presenting a Ministerial statement on the massive flood disasters in Selangor and Pahang” on the extended last day of Dewan Rakyat on Monday (Dec 20).

“Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun was right when he denied allegations that he rejected a motion to debate the ongoing flood situation on the last day of the Dewan Rakyat sitting on Monday,” Lim pointed out.

“However, [Azhar] failed as a [Dewan Rakyat Speaker] in not ensuring that the flood disaster was the highlight of the last day of Dewan Rakyat.” – Dec 23, 2021
