THE evening of March 31 has to be the most cross-cultural experience night in Beijing. China’s COFCO Food Import Co Ltd and Malaysia’s Dulai Fruits Enterprise Sdn Bhd, a trading arm of PLS Plantations Bhd had joined hand to host the ‘unleash flavour, indulge in perfection’ COFCO x DFE x MT Wine Cultural Experience event at the Beijing Junwangfu Hotel.
One hundred distinguished guests attended the dinner party, including representatives from Ekovest Bhd and PLS Plantations Bhd from Malaysia, Hainan Nongken Investment Holding Group Co Ltd, China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Foodstuffs, Native Produce and Animal By-Products (COFNA) and domestic distributor representatives.
The event was graced by the presence of COFCO WOMAI Investment Co Ltd’s deputy general manager Tao Changding and PLS Plantations’ group CEO Lee Hun Kheng.
In the speech, Lee highlighted PLS Plantations’ vision to bring the exquisite taste and unique quality of Malaysian durians to the world stage, including every corner of China. He gave a detailed introduction of the ‘King of Fruits’ – the durian from Malaysia – to the guests present.
Tao, on the other hand, emphasised COFCO Food’s position as a subsidiary of COFCO WOMAI which primarily focuses on B2B (business-to-business) marketing.
He also talked about the company’s extensive distribution system and sales network built by COFCO Group. He further highlighted that COFCO Food Import focuses on imported food to creates diverse of food source in China, therefore allowing their customers to see and taste good products from around the world in China.
“As a company specialising in importing food under COFCO WOMAI, we have been cultivating the Chinese market for many years and have developed mature market and sales network,” he shared.
“In the face of constantly evolving consumer demand, we have introduced high-end American food ingredients in addition to our various imported high-end ingredients. This is part of our commitment to providing consumers and partners with healthy, delicious, enjoyable, and convenient products and services.”
The highlight of the evening was an auction of COFCO Imported Food Sunny Fresh D200 Black Thorn Durians which was produced from the durian mother tree in Sungai Baong, Penang which won the Malaysian World Durian Championship.
All eight durians for auction were sold with the final bid reaching 33,000 yuan (RM21,240). The proceeds from the auction will be donated to charitable organisations in China and Malaysia.
Currently, COFCO Food Import has signed an exclusive distribution agreement with Dulai Fruits to introduce to China the Malaysian Frozen Musang King durian whole fruits, durian seed pulp, and other durian-related products.
The company plans to continue integrating food resources from advantageous regions, promoting the “Made-for-China” concept, and building platforms to strengthen cooperation and achieve mutual benefits with suppliers from global high-quality production areas and domestic sales network. – April 17, 2023
