LOCAL comic Douglas Lim has released a three-minute video lampooning PAS Kepala Batas MP Dr Siti Mastura Mohamad who has shot to stardom for her supposed confusion over Chinese surnames.
In case anyone has missed out on the joke, Siti Mastura had alleged that various members of the DAP hierarchy, including Lim Guan Eng and his father Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang were somehow related to ex-Singapore head of state Lee Kuan Yew and communist bogeyman Chin Peng.
The 34-year-old has been challenged to provide evidence of her claims made during a PAS shindig in Kemaman, Terengganu or face the consequences. At time of writing, Guan Eng has failed a lawsuit against the Perikatan Nasional (PN) MP.
Douglas’ video has been met with loud guffaws from netizens who were amused no end at the comedian’s jibes. He sarcastically noted in a mock press conference that he understood why some would call the former Singapore PM “Lim” Kuan Yew when the entire word recognised him as “Lee”.
On Douglas’ Facebook page, netizen Mohd Nayan added another punchline when he said: “Siti mastura lupa nak sebut satu lagi..Lim Biz kit.”
Another user Stanley Lim also got in on the act when he proclaimed: “Dulu aku ada jiran sebelah, dia selalu suka gohtong royong kat taman kita, kita panggil dia Uncle Lim Goh Tong….”
Netizens also took the opportunity to question Siti Mastura’s education when she confused ‘Lim’ with ‘Lee’. For the record, the 34-year old holds a doctorate in Islamic Development Management from the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), second highest ranking public university in Malaysia after Universiti Malaya.
Annalisia Mei Kuan questioned Siti Mastura’s academic credentials when she bluntly stated: “Your PhD I think beli (bought).”
User @muhammadsyafiqpeermohamed3215 guffawed: “Ha ha ha . . . Tulah level2 MP PAS … Memalukan (Embarassing).”
@ThaiOdyssey highlighted Siti Mastura’s flawed reasoning by stating: “If we follow the logic of Cik Siti, Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei are related; Douglas Lim and Jet Li, Bruce Lee are related.”
While many are having a laugh at Siti Mastura’s expense, the bottom line remains that she saw it fit to utter such a diatribe at an official function that was being filmed no less.
The racist undertones are barely disguised when she ominously warned the audience that “these people (ie DAP members of Chinese origin) are in our parliament.”
Laugh and ridicule the lady for her preposterous statements but the fact remains that she probably was playing to the gallery.
Are the constituents of Kemaman really that uneducated and backward to believe this narrative? Or are they just plain racist in not wanting anyone of Chinese origin to be in the august house, tarring all with communist and/or Singapore links?
Douglas Lim and countless netizens may joke about it but the crux of the issue is no laughing matter. – Nov 10, 2023
