COVID-19: Cases still on the high side, especially among healthcare workers

THE Health Ministry reported 1,683 new COVID-19 cases and no deaths as of today.

Out of the total 1,683 new COVID-19 cases reported to the Health Ministry as of noon today, 43 involved medical and health workers.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this brought the total number of COVID-19 cases among health frontliners identified during the third wave of the pandemic to 1,359.

The surge in the number of COVID-19 cases detected among health workers in the Klang Valley, said Dr Noor Hisham, was due to the rise in positive cases within the community.

“This situation is similar to the one which occurred in Sabah during the outbreak of the virus in the state.”

Hospitals in the Klang Valley which recorded the highest number of cases among health frontliners are Tuanku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang (54 cases), Serdang Hospital (29 cases), Sungai Buloh Hospital (15 cases), Kuala Lumpur Hospital (10 cases), Ampang Hospital (five cases) and Selayang Hospital (four cases).

“For now, the total cases of COVID-19 in the country is 90,816. The total recovery cases now stand at 75,244.

“With no deaths recorded today, the total number of those who have died due to COVID-19 is now at 432,” he added. – Dec 18, 2020.
