COVID-19: A dedicated insurance plan for Malaysians

THE COVID-19 pandemic has raised awareness among Malaysians on the importance of a life insurance.

The invisible enemy can infect anyone regardless of financial background which creates fear of losing source of income or COVID-19 related tragedy befalling breadwinner of the family.

As a result, Malaysians have been actively seeking ways to help them stay financially protected – for example, a dedicate insurance plan – in the event of them contracting COVID-19.

Answering the call, AIA General Bhd stepped up its game by introducing the first dedicated COVID-19 insurance plan in Malaysia – AXXESS COVID-19 Protect. This insurance plan is available to all Malaysians between the ages of one month and 65 years.

AXXESS COVID-19 Protect is valid for a period of three months for a one-time premium of only RM28.50 (inclusive of tax), making it truly affordable. Meanwhile, this plan is available for purchase online and the process only takes a few minutes.

It is available for only a limited time and it offers policyholders a payout of RM2,000 upon being diagnosed for COVID-19 in Malaysia and hospitalized in the country as a result. In the event of the untimely death of the policyholder as a result of COVID-19 or an accident, the policyholder’s nominee or family will receive an additional RM10,000 payout.

“The recent spate of infections in Malaysia is truly concerning to say the least. This is why we are offering the COVID-19 Protect plan which is currently the only known insurance plan exclusively for COVID-19 in Malaysia,” Tunku Naquiyuddin Tuanku Ja’afar who is executive chairman of Shieldcard Holdings – parent company of AXXESS – pointed out.

“There are no conditions attached to the plan; meaning you don’t need to be an insurance policy holder, telco customer, e-Wallet subscriber or undergo health screening, etc. You only need to subscribe and be covered.”

The introduction of this dedicated plan is timely as the country is facing third wave of the COVID-19 infections with Klang Valley recording daily infections numbering in the thousands. – Dec 31, 2020
