COVID-19: Cases creep back up to 6k, 68 fatalities

MALAYSIA has recorded 6,288 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday (Nov 17), which brings the cumulative infections in the country to 2,563,153.

In a statement, Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham said that of the new COVID-19 cases, 6,163 (98.0%) were mild and asymptomatic infections in Categories one and two, while the remaining 125 (2.0%) were from Categories three, four and five.

Categories one and two refer to patients with mild symptoms or none at all, category three refers to patients with pneumonia, while patients in categories four and five require oxygen and need ventilators, respectively.

Meanwhile, according to the CovidNow website, 4,743 patients have recovered, bringing the total to 2,466,523.

There were 68 deaths, thus bringing the death tally to 29,837.

Of the current cases, 536 cases required treatment in intensive care units (ICU) and 251 cases needed respiratory assistance. – Nov 18, 2021
