COVID-19: Cases rise on Oct 6 for second day in a row

MALAYSIA has logged 9,380 new COVID-19 infections on Wednesday (Oct 6), with the cumulative total number of infections now at 2,303,837.

While cases are up 6.38% from the 8,817 infections recorded the day before, this is the fourth day in a row that the country has reported less than 10,000 cases.

In a tweet, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also announced that 13,045 patients have recovered, with the total discharge now standing at 2,144,681.

According to the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website, there were 105 deaths, bringing the death tally to 26,981.

Sarawak continues to lead with the most daily infections at 1,503 despite the fact that 89.6% of its adult population having been fully vaccinated, behind the Klang Valley (111.8%), Labuan (98.95), Negri Sembilan (98.3%) and Perlis (92.7%).

Kelantan recorded the second highest daily figure with 1,170 cases, while Selangor saw daily infections slop to 1,116 from 1,348. This is followed by Johor (1,105), Sabah (790) and Terengganu (704).

“Of the current active cases, 847 patients are still in receiving treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU), with 445 of them in need of ventilator support,” Noor Hisham remarked. – Oct 7, 2021.
