COVID-19: Cases see slight dip; 7,116 in Klang Valley

MALAYSIA has recorded a daily infection rate of 12,541 cases today, bringing the cumulative total to 893,323.

This is the fourth day in a row that cases have exceeded 10,000.

In a statement, Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also announced that 6,742 patients have recovered, with the total discharged now stands at 772,542.

115 people have succumbed today, bringing the death tally to 6,728.

Selangor recorded the highest number of fresh cases with 5,512 infections, followed by Negri Sembilan (1,619) and Kuala Lumpur (1,542).

“Of the current active cases, 896 patients are still in receiving treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU), with 459 of them in need of ventilator support,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) imposed on 34 mukim in eight districts in Selangor will end tonight (Friday, July 16).

According to Ismail Sabri, a special meeting of the National Security Council which was held today, had studied the current situation and decided that there was no need to extend the enhanced MCO in Selangor. – July 16, 2021.
