COVID-19: Cases soar in Selangor to over 2k, 71 fatalities

On the first day of the second nationwide lockdown since last year, Malaysia recorded an alarming 7,105 new COVID-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative total to 579,462.

In a tweet, Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also announced that 6,083 patients have been cured, with the total discharged now stands at 496,121.

“Seventy-one people have died today, bringing the death tally to 2,867,” he added.

Selangor recorded the highest number of cases again (2,068), followed by Kuala Lumpur (817), Sarawak (703) and Kelantan (531).

“Of the current active cases, 872 patients are still in receiving treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU), with 419 of them in need of ventilator support,” he remarked. – June 1, 2021.
