COVID-19: Infections breach 20k mark again, over 500 on ventilator support

COVID-19 cases in the country soared again as the authorities detected 20,837 infections today, bringing the cumulative total to 1,593,602.

In a tweet, Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also announced that 18,613 patients have been cured, with the total discharged now stands at 1,316,336.

“Two-hundred and eleven people have died today, bringing the tally to 14,553,” he added.

Selangor recorded the highest number of fresh cases with 4,645, followed by Sabah (3,376), Penang (2,054) and Kedah (1,772).

“Of the current active cases, 1,063 patients are still in receiving treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU), with 511 of them in need of ventilator support,” he remarked. – Aug 24, 2021.
