COVID-19: MCO in all states except Sarawak starting Jan 22, 14 deaths today

THE Health Ministry has reported 3,631 new COVID-19 cases and 14 deaths in the past 24 hours.

In a press conference today, Health Ministry’s director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also said that there were 2,944 recoveries, bringing the total number of those recovered to 125,288.

“The total number of infections now stands at 165,371. Unfortunately, 14 people have lost their lives, bringing the total number of fatalities to 619,” he said.

The 14 deaths involved 12 Malaysians and two foreigners. They were aged between 46 and 85, with all suffering from pre-existing medical conditions.

Selangor continued to record the highest number of cases with 1,199 infections, followed by Sabah (526) and Kuala Lumpur (521).

On related matter, Noor Hisham said his ministry has detected nine new clusters in the past 24 hours.

The new clusters are:

  • Jalan Sungai Jelok prison (Selangor)
  • Jalan Masjid (Kuala Lumpur)
  • Jalan Taruka (Johor)
  • Taman Sayong Pinang (Johor)
  • Sri Gading (Johor)
  • Rakut (Sarawak)
  • Kupang (Kedah)
  • Kebor Air (Terengganu)
  • Rantau Cempaka (Pahang)

“With that, we have 305 active clusters to date. Three other clusters have ended which are the Jalan Tengah construction site, Inten and Jambatan B,” he added.

Meanwhile, Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the whole nation will be placed under movement control order (MCO), except for Sarawak, due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases

“The lockdown will begin from Jan 22 until Feb 4,” he said, in a press conference earlier today. – Jan 19, 2021.
