COVID-19: New infections remain above 5k, death toll stays at two-digits

THE Health Ministry announced 5,298 new COVID-19 infections and 14 deaths in the past 24 hours.

In a statement, Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also announced that there were 4,522 recoveries, bringing the total number of those recovered to 166,049.

“We have a total number of 214,959 infection cases as of now. Unfortunately, 14 people have lost their lives to the coronavirus, bringing the total death toll to 760,” he added.

All those who lost their lives were locals.

Selangor still recorded the highest number of infections with 2,460, followed by Johor (1,020) and Kuala Lumpur (783).

On related matter, Noor Hisham announced that his ministry has found 10 new clusters in the country.

Out of the 10, seven are work placed related, two involved high-risk groups and one was community based.

“With that, we have 392 active clusters. Five clusters have ended today; which are Jalan Tampoi, Paginatan, Pulau Berhala, Osmo Jaya and Kolam Air,” he added. – Jan 31, 2021.
