COVID-19: Recoveries beat new infections for four days, 11 fatalities

TODAY, the Health Ministry reported 3,585 COVID-19 infections and 11 deaths in the past 24 hours.

In a tweet, the ministry’s director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also said there were 4,076 recoveries, bringing the total number of those who have recovered to 149,160.

This was the fourth consecutive day where the number of those recovered surpassed cases of new infections.

“The total number of infections now stands at 190,434. Unfortunately, 11 people have lost their lives, bringing the total number of fatalities to 700,” he said.

Those who died involves 10 locals and one foreigner.

Selangor continues to record the highest number of daily infections at 1,295, followed by Kuala Lumpur (610) and Johor (516).

On related matter, Noor Hisham announced that there are currently 356 active clusters, with seven new ones detected today.

The new clusters are:

  • Jalan Cochrane (Kuala Lumpur)
  • Jalan Platinum (Johor)
  • Intan Delima (Negeri Sembilan)
  • Jalan Padi Mahsuri (Johor)
  • Kampung Bukit Putera (Terengganu)
  • Keladi Saga (Kedah)
  • Tembok Bukit Besi (Terengganu)

“With that, I also announce that two clusters have ended, which are the Teguli and Desa Pinang clusters,” Noor Hisham remarked.

On related matter, Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the Government would deliberate on whether to impose a total lockdown as in March last year.

“Either Noor Hisham or I will be making an announcement about it before MCO 2.0 expires on Feb 4,” he said, in a briefing.

The Bera MP said it was a tough situation for the nation, saying another “full lockdown” may risk the jobs of about 2.8 million people nationwide.

“Another 2.5 million workers may face income disruptions, which will impact their lives and livelihood. So, our decision will take into consideration all these scenarios,” Ismail remarked. – Jan 26, 2021.
