COVID-19: Spike in new infection, yet another new high for M’sia

THE Health Ministry (MOH) has reported 7,857 COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, another record high, bringing the cumulative total to 541,224.

In a tweet, Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also reported that 4,598 patients have recovered from the infection, with the total discharged now stands at 469,325.

He noted that out of the total new cases recorded, 7,849 cases were local transmissions. Meanwhile, out of the 7,849 locally transmitted cases, 7,340 of them were locals while 509 were foreigners.

Currently, there are 69,408 active cases, in which 771 patients are still in receiving treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU), with 392 of them in need of ventilator support.

Dr Noor Hisham also announced that 59 people have succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of fatalities to 2,491.

Selangor continues to record the highest number of cases (2,675), followed by Sarawak (772) and Kelantan (754). – May 27, 2021
