DAP rejects external pressure on government participation, says Anthony Loke

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke has firmly stated that the party’s decisions, including its involvement in state or federal governments, are made independently without succumbing to pressure or provocation from other parties.

Responding to UMNO Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh’s challenge for DAP to resign from Melaka government positions, Loke emphasised that internal discussions guide the party’s direction, prioritising principles and voters’ interests.

Speaking at the 25th Melaka DAP Annual Convention, he urged members to remain mature and unprovoked, while celebrating the party’s upcoming 60th anniversary in 2026 as a milestone to strengthen commitment.

“The party’s direction and decisions are not dictated by others. They are our own decisions because we do not want to make choices simply to meet the demands of certain parties,” he said.

“We are not afraid of challenges; in fact, we do not take challenges lightly, but at the same time, we are not easily provoked, and every decision must be made maturely and responsibly,” Anthony added.

“DAP is not intimidated by challenges, nor will it act hastily due to provocation from any party,” he said when officiating the 25th Melaka DAP Annual Convention here today.

Meanwhile, Melaka DAP chief Khoo Poay Tiong said Akmal has no right to tell DAP to leave the Melaka state government.

“Who is Akmal Saleh? The power to appoint state exco members lies with the chief minister, not Akmal Saleh,” Khoo said during the Melaka DAP convention today.

Khoo also said DAP joined the Melaka administration in April 2023 after being invited by chief minister Ab Rauf Yusoh, who offered DAP a seat in the state executive council as he wanted the state government to reflect the unity government in Putrajaya. —Jan 4, 2025
