Datuk Yasmin Mahmood claims chairmanship of Heriot-Watt University

BOASTING of a highly distinguished career spanning over three decades with various tech giants, leading figure in digital technology and enterprise Datuk Yasmin Mahmood now paves her way into the education line by joining Heriot-Watt University Malaysia as its new chairman.

In 2006, Yasmin was Microsoft Malaysia’s managing director and in 2014, was appointed CEO of Malaysia Digital Economy Corp Sdn Bhd (MDEC) and became instrumental in the region’s digital economic transformation.

She also currently serves in non-executive roles in prominent establishments including chairman of POS Malaysia as well as advisor to the global leader in artificial intelligence, Skymind.

“Her experience in the digital industry, working for some of the world’s largest companies, will provide an invaluable contribution towards the University’s shared vision of delivering worldwide impact through our pioneering research, whilst also ensuring a unique learning experience for our students,” said Heriot-Watt university principal and vice-chancellor Prof. Richard A. Williams.

Meanwhile, the university’s CEO Prof. Mushtak Al-Atabi said that Yasmin’s appointment will help drive the Herior-Watt’s ‘vision for excellence as her passion for people and technology will could promote greater inclusion in a complex digital world’. – Feb 8, 2021
