Defiant Hadi better heed Sultan Mizan’s decree for Malaysians to celebrate diversity

ON this auspicious day of Eid-ul-Fitr (Hari Raya Aidilfitri)), Terengganu ruler Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin has called for unity and tolerance to prevail, emphasising that this an important message that reflects the values of a harmonious society.

His Majesty’s message is a reminder that diversity is a strength that should be celebrated and embraced rather than being used as a source of division and conflict – a message that could be aptly targeted at PAS had honcho and Marang MP Tan Sri Hadi Awang.

“Cultivate this spirit among our children so that this peace will last in the future. Hari Raya can be used as a medium for us together to respect the existence of diversity in this country by opening our doors, receiving guests from various religions, races and cultures,” Sultan Mizan pointed out in a message in his Hari Raya Aidilfitri message.

Sultan Mizan also reiterated that simple gestures such as visits and calling at the homes of relatives, friends and neighbours can bring joy to his subjects.

He also reminded the people not to forget about the less disabled or less fortunate who are in rehabilitation and healthcare centres.

Unfortunately, a few PAS leaders are said to have chosen to ignore Sultan Mizan’s message by delivering Aidilfitri sermon that does not encourage social solidarity with an emphasis on sowing discord among the people, according to news portal Harapan Daily.

Surely, in a country as diverse as Malaysia, it is essential for leaders to promote the values of unity and tolerance rather than inciting division and discord. – April 22, 2023
