PAKATAN Harapan (PH)-slant social media influencers have seemingly viralled revelation that pro-Palestinian activist Mythreyar Mutturamalinggam might have embarked on his hunger strike action as a “public fund-raising exercise to settle a RM2k car repair cost”.
Calling it a “plot twist”, YB𝕏 (@ybperpaduan) provided video evidence of a man claiming to be a mechanic showing a RM2,000 repair bill that Mythreyar has yet to settle and that the car has yet to be picked up by its owner from the workshop.
“The brother on hunger strike has apparently sent his car to the workshop because it broke down. But has he yet to pick up his car because he doesn’t have enough money?” exposed YBX on the X platform.
“So, he might have embarked on a hunger strike with an anti-Blackrock masquerade to solicit public funds to pay for his car repair expenses.”
Plot twist ke wei??
Brader mogok lapar rupanya ada hantar kereta pergi workshop sebab rosak. Tapi tak pickup sampai sekarang sebab tak cukup duit? So dia mogok lapar konon terpaling anti-Blackrock kutip dana orang awam untuk cover?@Thiban_ben boleh sahkan based on video ni? https://t.co/UNUaFAMXS2 pic.twitter.com/KSwhv5yfnk

For context, Mythreyar had commenced his hunger strike last Wednesday (July 10) to object Putrajaya’s “eager plan” to sell shares in airports operator Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) to Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) which is deemed a wholly owned subsidiary of BlackRock.
His heroics has since been hailed by pro-Perikatan Nasional (PN) politicians and NGOs as exemplary of a non-Muslim activist who is willing to fight alongside the Palestinians on humanitarian ground.
The 46-year-old from Tanjung Malim is resolute to carry out his mission until the Madani government abandons its plan to engage GIP-BlackRock in the MAHB privatisation deal.
Confirming that the Tamil -to-English translation text of what the mechanic said was accurate, another PH activist Thiban Subbramaniam 🇲🇾 (@Thiban_ben) further exposed that Mythreyar had “tried similar things before but I don’t have much information about him”.
“As I know, he is quite controversial. We all stand for Palestinian brothers regardless of race and religion. This guy always propagates race but suddenly becomes so divine and fights for humanity. I see horse ride for PN (Perikatan Nasional) political agenda,” opined Thiban who is a special officer at the Economy Ministry.
This is when a netizen showed a Feb 15, 2020 newspaper cutting depicting Mythreyar being a spokesman for Tamil NGO during a media conference on the plight of family members of 12 individuals, including two state assemblymen, who were detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA) for their alleged links to the defunct Sri Lanka’s Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) movement.
This has prompted another pro-PH cybertrooper to discredit PN which is riding on Mythreyar “who once supported LTTE when PAS was opposing LTTE” to achieve the coalition’s goals of getting the Madani government to drop GIP-BlackRock from MAHB’s privatisation exercise.

Of the many social media posts by supporters of Mythreyar’s hunger strike, the most striking is perhaps this TikTok video by Naemah Muhammad Rafiq who is the Malaysia country head for the Al Imdaad Charitable Trust (AICT) Global which is championing the Palestinian cause.
“Do you think this is a joke? You want to wait for him to become the next Aaron Bushnell (the US Air Force active-duty member who set himself on fire outside the Israeli Embassy in Washington, DC) then all of us will tell him to rest in peace?” she lashed out in her video clip which has fetched 2.4 million views at the time of writing.
“Aaron was a hero but Mythreyar is one now … right in the middle of the street (Dataran Merdeka), his hunger strike has entered the fifth day (when the video was shot) … why aren’t the authorities be attending to him? Want to wait for him to die, then go to his funeral to express condolences to his family?” – July 16, 2024
