PRO-Palestinian activist Mythreyar Mutturamalinggam has not allowed the issue of race and religion to stand in between him and his steadfast quest to protest against the Zionist invasion of Gaza.
This has prompted the 46-year-old from Tanjung Malim to commence his hunger strike effective Wednesday (July 10) to object Putrajaya’s “eager plan” to sell shares in airports operator Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) to Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) which is a wholly owned subsidiary of BlackRock.
Although he has been trolled on social media from being foolish by fighting a lost cause to being “a paid actor”, “just find him a girlfriend’ to “feed him with tosai after two days”, Mythreyar is resolute to carry out his mission until the Madani government abandons its plan to engage GIP-BlackRock in the privatisation deal.
In an interview with HarakahDaily yesterday (July 11), Mythreyar thanked Malaysians – both politicians and NGOs – who support his action, particularly those who have profound interest in the plight of the Palestinians.
“I have not eaten or drank anything (since July 10) and I will continue until tomorrow (July 12). Although very tired and hungry, I feel strong because of the support of Malaysians and thinking of the well-being of Palestinians,” he enthused.
PAS Tangga Batu MP Bakri Jamaluddin (main image, left) who stopped by at the five-foot way next to the Sultan Abdul Samad Building in Kuala Lumpur to render support to Mythreyar yesterday (July 11) praised the latter for not having any direct interest in the matter yet felt that it was duty-bound for him to fight the oppression carried out by Israel on Palestinians.
“Mythreyar is a Malaysian who takes responsibility for what happens in the country. That’s why I support his actions. That’s why he chooses such way to express his objection,” opined the Melaka deputy PAS commissioner.
“While the issue for us Muslims is a religious one, non-Muslims regard it as a humanitarian issue. If small children are killed, hospitals are destroyed and schools are bombed, this is genocide to them.”
Added Bakri: “That’s why today we see the support growing from all over the world actually. In the US and UK alone, they, too, objected to BlackRock’s participation in any government asset.”
NGO Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) Malaysia which also commended Mythreyar for his hunger strike protest sees BlackRock as a company complicit in the on-going genocide of Palestinians by Israel which has to-date killed almost 40,000 civilians with an estimated 70% of that number being innocent children and women. – July 12, 2024
