“Earth to Adham Baba, please return immediately!”: Netizens mock over space board idea

YESTERDAY (July 18), Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba announced that the Government would form the National Space Board to enforce the recently-gazetted Space Board Act (Act 834).

The board, he added, would be tasked to create and enact regulation relating to space exploration in accordance with international treaties.

“An interim Space Board has been (temporarily) formed and will come into full force early next year, when the regulations are finalised,” The Star reported him as saying.

However, netizens were unimpressed with the minister over the project and mocked him, urging him to deal with pressing matters affecting the country first.

“Please come back to Earth and stop day-dreaming… We have more pressing issues that need focus today before we dream about space exploration,” said user Johnny Ong.

Echoing Ong’s sentiments, user Balbir Dhaliwal added:

Netizen Tan Yokechua jested:

According to Bernama in February this year, the Malaysian Space Board Act 2022, gazetted last Jan 25, will be used to regulate space and establish the Malaysian Space Board to regulate space-related activities.

The law stipulates four methods of regulating space activities, which include licenses to control the safety aspect of space-related activities and launching permits for service providers that carry out space-launching activities from facilities within Malaysia.

Solve earthly problems first!

On that note, user Ravi Varmman lamented that Malaysian ministers seem to have their priorities misplaced given that the populace was suffering from bread-and-butter issues, which needs immediate attention.

Netizen Angie Then retorted: “Can’t even settle issues on earth but want to talk about space! You’re definitely spacing out! Please be grounded.” – July 19, 2022
