Electricity tariff review: Netizen pan Takiyuddin, disbelieve his assurances

WITH Energy and Natural Resources Minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan announcing that the Government is reviewing electricity tariff, netizens took to social media to hurl brickbats at him.

(Takiyuddin and the Government are disgusting. Don’t they know how people are struggling to rebuild their lives after two years of movement restrictions and hike in prices of goods? Can’t they wait for a year or two before doing this? Afterall, Tenaga Nasional Bhd recorded over RM1 bil in nett profits!)

Echoing his sentiments, user It’s Me Munir added:

(Why do our ministers keep coming up with dumb statements? Sometimes, I wonder whether we are nearing the end of times or is it a must for politicians to become stupid once they rise to power. If you you’re not fit to become a minister, just quit and enjoy your pension)

Netizens Pemuda Bangsa21 mocked Takiyuddin by saying:

(When they were the Opposition, a protest will be launched even for a slight price hike. Now that they are in the Government, they have stopped working for the public).

Yesterday, Takiyuddin announced that the new electricity tariff, which would be announced soon, would not burden the public and it will benefit 85% of the eight million domestic users nationwide.

“We are just recovering from COVID-19 and the economic malaise caused by it. All that were considered when the review on the electricity tariff was made,” the Kota Bharu MP was reported saying, adding it would also involve industrial and commercial tariff.

Stop the “won’t burden the public” drivel!

Unimpressed with Takiyuddin’s assurances, netizens bemoaned that the “would not burden the public” phrase was often used before hiking up prices.

(Any rate hike is usually followed by the “won’t burden the public” catchphrase. That is their rhetoric and trademark but at the end, the public suffer)

Netizen Tan Sri Dr Agyeff remarked:

(Inexpensive, my foot! Government leaders get all their bills covered. When in the Opposition, these fellows kept protesting on every issue. This imbecile is a bane to the public) – Jan 10, 2022
