Empowering the gig economy even further through mechanics

THE gig economy is now becoming a significant contributor to the country’s economic growth as the segment has been rapidly developing in various ways, especially in the current pandemic-stricken climate.

With the gig economy changing the standards of common jobs, POMEN Autodata Sdn Bhd is kicking into gear with an aim to empower the gig mechanics via its platform.

The app is Malaysia’s leading automotive maintenance platform that connects car drivers with nearby workshops, all from a single click of a button.

By announcing its POMEN Rider Programme, it marks the company’s first onboarding phase of 48 mechanics that have signed up around Klang Valley, Seremban and Ipoh.

This extension to the current business was planned to target a growth of at least 5,000 mechanics signing up as their POMEN Riders by the end of five years.

POMEN is also working with Petronas to enable its riders to get lubricant stock at any Petronas Mesra stations cashlessly using their Petronas SMARTPay cards that they will receive upon registering for the programme.

“We saw the trend of jobs being converted into the gig economy and with mechanics being a skilled trade, it’s among the highest in demand since vehicle owners would enjoy the convenience of hiring a mechanic in real time through an app,” said POMEN founder and CEO Syed Zulhilmi Tuan Sharif. – April 29, 2021
