Establish bipartisanship for the good of the people and the nation

Letter to Editor

AT KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific, we welcome the Parliament session from July 26 to Aug 2 as we believe it will be essential to ensure good governance, integrity, transparency and accountability.

That said, we hope that the MPs and both sides of the House could prioritise the people and the nation by putting aide political divide and rivalry. They should put the people above their own party interests.

We suggest the Parliament to establish a new All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on National Recovery so that MPs from both sides can be involved in efforts to overcome the pandemic.

This can be similar to the successful APPG on the Sustainable Developmental Goals, which has members from both the Government and Opposition parties working together.

We also wish to call for the establishment of a new National Consultative Council on National Recovery to be set up with representatives from the Government, Opposition parties, civil society organisations, business and industry associations and think tanks and academics to focus on how we can rebuild our nation.

Finally, we hope that the Government would be more open on taking into account the views and suggestions from the Opposition, private sector, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), think tanks and the like in order to set a clearer objective of winning the war against COVID-19. – July 7, 2021
