THE Personal Data Protection Department (PDPD) and Cybersecurity Malaysia (CSM) have been ordered to investigate an alleged data leak affecting 13 million Malaysians that was reported this morning on social media.
“I will ask CSM, PDPD to investigate whether there is a data leak involving the parties concerned and take action,” Bernama reported Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil as saying.
According to Fahmi, leakage was serious as it involved a large amount of information.
Prior to that, Fahmi shared a post to a Facebook page by a person going by the name “Pendakwah Teknologi,” who claimed that approximately 13 million people had their information stolen from Maybank, the Election Commission (EC), and Astro.
In accordance with the post, a website identified 3.5 million Astro subscribers, 1.8 million Maybank users, and 7.2 million EC users at 7.56pm on Dec 25.
Furthermore, the leaked information allegedly includes usernames, full names, dates of birth, addresses, and identity card numbers. – Dec 30, 2022
