SEMBRONG MP Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the dismal results of the 15th general election (GE15) should serve as a “wake-up call” for Barisan Nasional (BN) and UMNO members.
The BN treasurer-general said the coalition – and to an extent, the party – need to work on reclaiming public support for the longevity of the party, adding that the road ahead will not be easy for them.
“We need to improve and do whatever it takes to fix this for the sake of our beloved party. There is so much to be done to regain the people’s confidence [in the party]. We cannot afford anymore missteps,” he said in a video that is making its rounds on social media today.

This is following the coalition’s big loss in the aftermath of the general election on Nov 19, which saw it winning only 30 seats, with analysts going as far as to call it the “end of an era” for the former ruling coalition.
On his political future, Hishammuddin said that he remains an UMNO loyalist despite speculations otherwise.
“People often ask me about my stand and political future and the answer is simple: I am still with UMNO. I won’t go anywhere, and any rumours stating otherwise are merely done to paint me in a bad light,” he insisted.
Recall that two days after the events of GE15, a defiant Hishammuddin maintained that he will not support any cooperation with Pakatan Harapan (PH) to form the federal government.
He said that BN should not work with PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim or DAP, adding that he would rather be sacked by the party than change his stand.
He also stressed that he will remain steadfast in his struggle and fight for UMNO so as not to disappoint its grassroots loyalists and that he is someone who “will fight and will continue to be steadfast for the sake of UMNO – dulu, kini, selamanya (then, now and always)”. – Dec 23, 2022
