Hadi: “Unlike UMNO, PAS will never work with DAP”

PAS will not be duped into moving away from its Islamic policies and orientation and will therefore never be able to work with DAP, unlike UMNO, according to party president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.

“PAS cannot enter DAP’s ‘kitchen’ because of the presence of ‘non-halal food’. We cannot do so even if they change their ‘chef’, even if the ‘chef’ is Muslim,” Harakah Daily reported him as saying.

The Marang MP said this in response to DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang’s recent remark in which he expressed hope for UMNO to become stronger than both PAS and Bersatu in the future to ensure the success of the Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim-led administration.

In a statement on Monday (April 17) Lim said the only way for UMNO to return to its former glory was for the party to return to the principles of the Federal Constitution and Rukun Negara instead of seeking a pardon for their former leader Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

To Hadi, what was implied by Lim was that DAP was pushing a secularist agenda, which the PAS leader argued was not clearly defined in the Federal Constitution, unlike Islam which was clearly stated as the religion of the federation.

As such, Hadi accused DAP of being a deceitful party that was now pursuing its secularist ambitions through UMNO.

He further accused DAP and their new partners of imitating colonialists of the past in using the monarchy as a “human shield” while downplaying the concept of constitutional monarchy and the monarch’s duties towards Islam.

“DAP is working with UMNO to secure Malay and Muslim votes to make up for PKR and Amanah’s failures,” he claimed.

“Their partner, UMNO, is now being tested – are they fighting to cari makan (for survival) and positions or because UMNO is fighting for religion, race and homeland?”

Hadi went on to slam DAP for “glorifying the ashes” of former Communist Party of Malaya (CPM) leader Chin Peng, which was brought back to Malaysia in 2019.

Recall that Hadi had previously accused the DAP of communist ties, despite the fact that the party was not involved in either event.

Ironically, when Hadi’s ally Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin was home minister in the previous administration, the government had announced that no one would be convicted for bringing Chin Peng’s ashes to Malaysia. – April 21, 2023
