OPPOSITION leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin and 16 MPs recently expelled from Bersatu are expected to join a new political platform next week.
The move will reportedly include several Bersatu division chiefs who have pledged loyalty to Hamzah.
Sources indicate he is set to take over a small existing party rather than join a major one, allowing him to lead and rebuild his influence ahead of the next general election.
Padang Rengas MP Azahari Hassan reportedly said the new political platform would also include Bersatu division chiefs who have already pledged their support for Hamzah.
“The information I have received is the same (that Hamzah will announce his ‘new home’) soon, InshaAllah next week. I will also join the ‘new home’ together with the other MPs,” he was quoted as saying in Utusan Malaysia.
Reports also suggest that Hamzah will join Parti Berjasa Malaysia (Berjasa), but last week, the party denied the claims.
Its information chief Mohd Hamdan Mohd Sharif said the party remains intact under the leadership of its legitimately elected and appointed Supreme Leadership Council, in accordance with the party constitution.
He said there have been no official discussions or specific meetings regarding the allegation so far.
“However, Berjasa is always open to discussions with any party to strengthen the agenda of Malay unity and solidarity,” he said in a statement on Sunday.
Larut MP and former Bersatu supreme council member Yunus Nurdin also said Hamzah would take over a small party to expand his influence ahead of the next general election.
Hamzah’s supporters believe this strategy will strengthen his leadership position. Hamzah’s expulsion, along with that of other senior figures, has intensified internal fractures within Bersatu and is expected to further impact the party’s stability. – Feb 21, 2026
