YANG di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, has called for the conditional pardon granted to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to be complied with, following the Attorney-General’s Chambers’ suggestion that house arrest be deferred pending a review.
In a statement from Istana Negara, Sultan Ibrahim emphasised that the conditional pardon order is clear, explicit and unambiguous, and is not related to any other cases involving the former prime minister.
“There should be no room for confusion in its interpretation, nor should there be prolonged uncertainty over the implementation of the decision that has been consented to.
“Given that all the conditions stipulated in the conditional pardon order have been fulfilled, any arguments challenging the order would amount to defying the decree of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” the palace said.
Meanwhile, Perikatan Nasional leader and Parti Wawasan Negara president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin has reminded all Malaysians and the government of their fundamental obligation to uphold the Institution of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong as the symbol of national sovereignty under the Federal Constitution and Rukun Negara.
Hamzah asserted that the government must fulfil any lawful decree issued by the King, particularly regarding royal pardons, reprieves, or commutations under Article 42 of the Federal Constitution.
Highlighting past controversies surrounding the Addendum Decree, he warned that ignoring, denying, or trivialising royal decrees constitutes major disloyalty to the King and the nation.
Referring to Federal Court rulings on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s own royal pardon, Hamzah emphasised that the King’s prerogative is non-justiciable and cannot be questioned by any court or political authority.
He criticised Anwar for stating he “personally disagreed” with royal matters, arguing that as a beneficiary of Article 42, the Prime Minister should better understand constitutional duties.
Hamzah reiterated that protecting the sovereignty of the monarchy is a constitutional mandate, not a selective political choice. — Nov 7, 2026
