YAYASAN Keluarga Malaysia (YKM) has been in the spotlight recently following former opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin’s statement of continuing his political struggle by leading Party Keluarga Malaysia.
Former prime minister Ismail Sabri, who is also chairman of YKM, stressed that the establishment of a new political party allegedly using the name “Keluarga Malaysia” has no connection with YKM.
He said he only became aware of the matter recently and is awaiting official confirmation from the Registrar of Societies Malaysia before deciding on the next course of action.
Ismail further pointed out that the name could cause confusion, given that YKM is a charitable entity that has long been recognised by the public.
Note that YKM was established during his tenure as prime minister to ensure the welfare of about 1,000 YKM foster children continues to be monitored, particularly those living with grandparents, relatives, or relying on the goodwill of the community.
To safeguard the foundation’s credibility, he said the organisation is considering trademarking the YKM name in collaboration with the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia.
Meanwhile, Parti Keluarga Malaysia founder Khairi Jaya said to The Star that preparations are nearly done for Hamzah to take over the top post.
Khairi added that he has met Hamzah and several other former Bersatu MPs on multiple occasions to discuss the move. —Mar 4, 2026
