MALAYSIANS are probably waiting for UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh to replicate his ‘ceiling’ boycott’ call against KK Super Mart on all “GISBH-owned businesses” after the Perlis Fatwa Committee declared that the beliefs and teachings of GISB Holdings are deviant and un-Islamic.
Perlis mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin said the fatwa was issued after the committee received compelling evidence – something that should serve as a wake-up call for the Merlimau state assemblyman who is best remembered for his samurai sword-wielding antic at the height of the sock-gate saga in March.
Asri – or Dr MAZA as he is popularly known – claimed that the “batiniah” (esoteric) elements in GISBH’s teachings are a continuation of the deviant al-Arqam teachings.

Beyond Perlis which emerged the first state to declare the organisation as a deviant group, the nationalistic Merlimau state assemblyman should jolly well know that Terengganu – another PAS-ruled state – is in the midst of following Perlis’ footstep in declaring the beliefs and teachings of GISBH as deviant.
Terengganu Mufti Datuk Dr Mohamad Sabri Haron said that the Terengganu Fatwa Committee will issue this ruling based on clear evidence indicating that the organisation promotes deviant teachings.
“We will declare GISBH as deviant based on the evidence, but typically, the National Council for Islamic Affairs (MKI) will make a decision first before it is brought to the respective states,” he noted.
Recall that the nationalistic Russia-trained medical doctor was so bent in his opposition against KK Super Mart that he mooted a “ceiling boycott” alongside “apology banner across all 881 KK Super Mart stores nationwide within 48 hours”.
Perlis and Terengganu aside, Akmal who was recently conferred Datukship should also be aware that His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim King of Malaysia has ordered a through police probe into alleged criminal elements and child abuse in welfare homes linked to GISBH.
In fact, the Melaka state Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security Committee chairman’s seemingly selective persecution of KK Super Mart has not gone down well with some detractors.
