WITH 43 laboratories among the universities and in the public sector, the current daily testing capacity of Malaysia in combating the Covid-19 pandemic stands at 11,500. Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah is targeting a total daily testing capacity of 16,500.
He shared this after providing the daily update of the situation in Malaysia regarding the Covid-19 pandemic.
As of 12pm on April 7, 170 new cases were reported, bringing the total to 3,963 cases. Of these, 80 have recovered, bringing the total recovery cases to 1,321. A total of 2,579 patients are receiving treatment, of which 92 are in the intensive care unit and 50 require ventilator assistance. Another death was also reported, bringing the death toll to 63.
A total of 9,214 samples were also tested today.
With regard to the Extended Movement Control Order areas, Dr Noor Hisham shared that “about two-thirds have been tested.”
A total of 1,000 quarantine centres have been set up, with a capacity of 550,000 people. The Health DG shared that these have screened 34,461 people, of which 32 were symptomatic and have been isolated at hospitals. – April 7, 2020
