‘Historic’ signing of MOU on bipartisan cooperation an excellent decision, says NGO

MoU bipartisan

THE ‘historic’ signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri’s Government and Pakatan Harapan shows a significantly matured move by all political parties especially by Pakatan leaders, said the Malaysian Indian Voice (MIV).

While the new Government formed by Ismail Sabri was another form of Government that the people did not elect, it is a good thing that the Government and Opposition had found a way to settle the conflicts for a better and more stable Government, said its president Pappa Raidu Veraman.

“Ismail Sabri and his cabinet ministers should pay more attention and push for a clean administration without fear or favour and be more careful in appointing ‘court cluster’ MPs to Government positions,” he said.

The ‘court cluster’ refers to the group of UMNO MPs standing trial for corruption following the collapse of the Barisan Nasional (BN) government, partly due to the 1MDB scandal.

According to Pappa Raidu, several incidents had taken place following the 14th general election (GE14) that had led to the formation of the current administration, among them the  ‘Sheraton Move’ that had highlighted the dishonesty of certain former Pakatan leaders who had betrayed the coalition for their own political benefits.

“We also cannot forget the fact that Muhyiddin’s administration, who had taken over from Pakatan Harapan, had collapsed after failing to handle the country’s COVID-19 crisis.

“As such, all effort should be put into overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic and dealing with the country’s economic and social issues, and this is why the MoU is an excellent step moving forward.”

The Government had signed the MOU with Pakatan Harapan (PH) to strengthen political stability amid the COVID-19 pandemic through bipartisan cooperation on Monday (Sept 13).

“Today, the federal government and PH made history by inking a Memorandum of Understanding on Transformation and Political Stability,” Ismail Sabri said in a statement, adding that a “solid and stable” bipartisan cooperation was formed with the MOU. – Sept 14, 2021.
