WHEN we have bad neighbors, the solution could be as simple as changing to a new house. But if said neighbour is a country separated by the straits of Malacca, the story is not so simple.
Although Malaysia is not subject to natural disasters, our country is still affected by human ignorance.
Open the windows and one can note the hazy sky outside and groan, knowing that it could only be the product of Indonesia.
But at times, we wonder how bad is the opening burning over there for the haze to make its way here.
A video post on X captures this statement in stark detail, showcasing a smoke filled atmosphere and people in gas masks running about.
Some tried to put out the fire, but to no avail. Recently, a poor orang utan was also found unconscious on the ground, likely suffocating from the smoke.

According to @mengkudu_masam, the Indonesian authorities will simply blame it on the Malaysian companies.
Netizen @DailyDoodl68713 further showed the fruits of this destructive exercise in a photo.
@afiqadnann added that they should be proactive when burning, such as having an ample supply of water ready to quench the flames.
Then there was @ArsyCrown suggesting a giant air purifier be installed in Malaysia to solve the haze problem.
@ReelvZero further lamented that this was a yearly occurrence.
While 50,000 people are hospitalised for respiratory infections in Indonesia, health alerts have also been raised in neighbouring countries where haze has been detected.
Over 12,000 of those cases are of children under the age of five. Meanwhile, neighbouring Malaysia has reported rising cases of asthma and conjunctivitis amid worsening air quality nationwide as smoke drifts across the border from Indonesia.—Sept 3, 2026
