How XOX sparks mushrooming of telco entrepreneurs in Malaysia

MALAYSIAN disruptive technology provider XOX Bhd has been making waves nationwide through its highly affordable ONE XOX prepaid SIM card plan.

t the telco industry in the early days did not deter her from getting involved in the business.

“I had zero knowledge about telco when I first joined ONE XOX dealership programme. The business jargons were alien to me back then,” she told FocusM. “However, I did not give up easily. I participated in all classes and training sessions provided by the head office to equip me with all the knowledge and information I need.”

Today a main distributor of ONE XOX, Wan Norlatifah had joined the business in 2013 on a part-time basis. At that time, she was still running her family’s grocery store.

But after six months, she decided to go full-time upon seeing promising result from her ONE XOX venture.

Interestingly, her ONE XOX has proven to be “recession-proof” as it was not affected by the COVID-19 pandemic nor the numerous lockdowns.

“I am grateful that not only my business was not affected, it grew even stronger. The top-up sales were continuously a hit at that time, even after the MCO (movement control order) and as Malaysia transition into the endemic phase.”

Budding entrepreneur, Poon Wai Yip, 21, who joined the ONE XOX dealership programme right after graduation flashbacked to his earlier days when he started his ONE XOX dealership journey.

“Back then, it was clear to me that I did not have a large or wide network to begin with compared with other dealers who are way more senior than me in terms of age and advantage of contact size,” he recalled.

“However, I was not hindered by that. I challenged myself by always referring to my leader for more knowledge and information if I am not clear of any part of the business.”

As Ipoh-born Poon started by approaching his family members and school friends, words spread and his network steadily grew.

With the numerous trainings that he has attended to sharpen his skills and product knowledge, he currently earns a four-figure monthly income which is above the average salary of fresh graduates.

Despite his parents having initially opposed his ONE XOX venture, Poon encourages all young adults, especially fresh graduates, to explore the entrepreneurship opportunities that come with not only income but essential skills as well.

As for Mohd Zairol Hisham Abdullah, he started his ONE XOX business in 2013 while he was still working at an oil and gas company. Realising that he wants to achieve more to improve his quality of life, he explored and stumbled upon the ONE XOX dealership programme.

With his hard work, determination and tenacity, he finally started operating his business full time in 2015. He currently earns a five-figure monthly income on average.

“Even when I was doing the business on part-time basis, I made sure that I committed 100% to the ONE XOX dealership programme. I set my target on a weekly and monthly basis, and ensured that I achieved it,” quipped Zairol.

“I find that when I started doing this business full-time, I do have more time compared to when I was working. I believe we must always keep up our pace consistently, especially when we are running a business. If you are too relaxed, your income may also be lower.”

As of end-May, ONE XOX has provided business opportunities by helping 30,000 dealers throughout the country not only in achieving their life dreams and goals, but also shaped them to become tech and business savvy entrepreneurs with polished skills.
