Immigration officer lodges police report against MACC officers, alleges harassment

WITH the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) under pressure over allegations of conflict of interest involving its chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki, a copy of a police report is going viral on social media involving claims of malpractices by the anti-graft agency.

Edisi Khas posted on Twitter a police report lodged yesterday by an unnamed immigration officer, who claimed he has been threatened by several MACC officers to plead guilty to several charges despite the former pleading innocence.

Relating his ordeal, the immigration officer, in a report lodged at the Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi police station, said that on April 1, last year, he was charged at the Kota Bharu Sessions Court by the MACC on three cases under Section 165 of the Penal Code.

The individual added that he had pleaded not guilty on the charges and had appointed lawyer Zulkifli Mohamad to represent him.

However, on Nov 9, Zulkifli had passed away, Subsequently, he appointed a new lawyer for himself and the trial date was set between July 3 and 7 this year.

“On Nov 24, MACC’s investigation officer Syed Muhammad Fadzli Syed Hussin contacted me and asked me to come over to the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya on Dec 2, at 11.30am.

“When I went there on the said time and date, I met MACC’s director of prosecution named Wan Shaharuddin who told me to plead guilty and pay a fine of RM5,000.

“Wan Shaharuddin then threatened me by saying that if I refused to plead guilty, he would level other charges against me.

“After the meeting, the investigating officer told me that he knew I was innocent but could do nothing as he was bound by the directives issued by his superiors,” he claimed.

On Dec 27, the individual said that the investigating officer contacted him again and was told to come over to MACC’s office on Jan 3 for a meeting at 2pm, together with his wife.

“When I went there with my wife, the investigating officer made the same threats. However, this time they also threatened to level charges against my wife as well and detain her on the spot.

“The officer also said that I must plead guilty then and there or risk having my wife getting arrested and will only be released after paying RM5,000 per person with one surety each. I was levelled with all types of threats so as to coerce me to plead guilty to the charges.

“Apart from Fadzli, there were other officers named Puan Rita, Tuan Muhammad Hambia, Tuan Hafiz and Tuan Ridzwan making threats against me,” the individual alleged.

Want his time in court

Fearing for his family’s safety, the individual said that he had pleaded guilty to the charges so that they could return home safely that day.

However, the individual reiterated that he was innocent of the charges levelled against him and wanted to redeem himself in the court of law.

“But today, the investigating officer called me and asked why I did not attend court proceedings despite my trial date was set for July 3.

“Hence, I’m making this police report so that action will be taken against the MACC officers who had threatened the safety of my wife and mine,” the report concluded. – Jan 11, 2022.
