THE Jerusalem Post has identified the alleged Israeli spy as Shalom Avitan, 36, who was detained at a hotel on Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, where police discovered six firearms and 200 rounds of ammunition in his possession.
Upon interrogation, Avitan purportedly confessed to entering Malaysia using a fraudulent French passport and claimed his intention to assassinate another Israeli over personal grievances.
However, Malaysian police remain sceptical particularly concerning the acquisition of weapons through cryptocurrency transactions, raising concerns about potential espionage motives.
Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain has doubts about the story crafted by the Israelis. At a press conference, he noted that the security of key figures in Malaysia such as His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, had increased.
He also asked why the Israeli needed six guns and 200 bullets to carry out his mission against another Israeli who is apparently living in Malaysia.
“For now, the investigation is skewed towards that. At the same time, we haven’t dismissed the possibility that the suspect may have other agendas as I stated before, namely threatening the safety of His Majesty or the PM, as well as other important people.”
Investigations continue to uncover the full extent of Avitan’s alleged activities and potential connections to Israeli intelligence. – March 30, 2024
