JIM couple suspected of using bribes to open RM600k gold shop

A MARRIED couple, both officers of the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM), are suspected of using bribe money collected over four years to open a gold shop with an estimated capital of RM600,000.

According to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), investigations revealed that the pair allegedly arranged the entry of undocumented foreign workers into the country. The couple reportedly used the woman’s sibling and their own child as proxies to register the gold shop.

The special operation, codenamed Op Dygo, saw the couple, both in their 40s, remanded for five days until 14 September at the Ayer Keroh Magistrate’s Court in Melaka.

Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya said the suspects were involved in the regularisation programme, meant to help employers secure valid work permits for undocumented workers.

To speed up the process from seven days to three, employers were allegedly asked to pay RM700 per worker. The suspects pocketed RM150 each, with the remainder distributed among other officers.

Over four years, the couple allegedly amassed RM900,000, which was used to finance the gold shop and purchase a luxury car. A raid in Pahang uncovered three kilograms of gold worth RM1.4mil.

The case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009. — Sept 13, 2025
