Johor polls: Please stop the despicable “Malu Apa Bossku” campaign, tycoon urges EC

UPPING the ante against former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, tycoon Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew lodged a complaint against the former’s “Malu Apa Bossku” movement taking place in Johor.

In a letter to the Elections Commission (EC) chairman Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh, Lee urged the former to hit the brakes on the Bossku campaign, alleging it goes against Islamic teachings.

“When it is against Islamic teachings, it is violating Article 3 of the Federal Constitution which says Islam is the official religion of the Federation.

“Clearly, the ‘Malu Apa, Bossku’ campaign shows no respect to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the Head of Islam in the country,” he stated.

Based on media reports, Najib’s new image as Bossku is a hit in Johor with voters across all racial backgrounds rushing to meet and hear his speech.

The “Bossku wave” was also credited by several Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders as one of the main reasons why the coalition managed to win a two-thirds majority in the Melaka state election held last year.

Touching on the matter, Lee reminded Ghani that Najib is a convicted criminal. While he is not contesting any seats in the Johor state election, the Pekan MP’s posters are being placed prominently across the state than the candidates who are contesting.

Elections are sacred

“He is attempting Bollywood level acts and shows. Najib is indeed becoming popular with his ‘big production’ budget which I believe requires EC’s investigation.

“If all Malaysians become shameless like him, then what is the point of having elections? What kind of leaders and talents are we putting forth for the country?” he queried.

With that, Lee said that elections are sacred in a democracy and urged the EC to carry out its duties with honour and integrity.

“We need leaders with morals and ethics. The ‘Malu Apa Bossku’ campaign must be stopped and not used in any election campaign.

“Please right the wrong with courage and conscience. The country comes first, everything else come second,” he quipped.

It is to note that Lee’s daughter, Dian Lee is a leader of the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA), a party which is aligned to Pakatan and is also contesting several seats in Johor. – March 10, 2022
