Johor to set up JICO to enhance trade relations with Singapore

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Johor is setting up Johor Investment Company (JICO) in Singapore to facilitate bilateral trade relations, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad said today.

This will be done immediately to strengthen the state’s economy post-Covid-19.

He stressed that JICO would not be duplicating the roles of the International Trade and Industry Ministry and the Malaysian High Commission in Singapore as its establishment has received approval from Wisma Putra.

“We will be setting up an office in Singapore … to improve relations, collaborating in all aspects, especially technical, and exchange of ideas in the mutual interest of both countries,” he told reporters after the Ruler opened a Johor State Assembly session here.

Hasni said the opening of JICO in Singapore would provide opportunities for civil servants in Johor to acquire knowledge and improve work skills at the international level, hence, increasing the state’s potential in attracting foreign investors.

In a related development, Hasni said Johor is planning to revive and strengthen the tripartite relations among Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia (SIJORI).

According to him, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had agreed in principle to the SIJORI plan and the first discussions among the three countries would take place after the Aidilfitri celebrations. – May 14, 2020, Bernama
